About the Artist
Ravi's studio in Deptford is a treasure trove of found objects, vintage kitchenware, fruit, and flowers — the raw materials for his meticulously composed still life photographs. Influenced equally by Dutch Golden Age painting and Indian miniature art, Ravi creates images that celebrate the beauty of the mundane. He works with continuous lighting, spending hours adjusting a single shadow or repositioning an element by millimetres. After studying Commercial Photography at the London College of Communication, Ravi spent five years shooting for food and lifestyle magazines before committing fully to his personal practice. His series 'Feast' — exploring South Asian ingredients through the lens of classical European still life — was published by MACK Books and won the Aperture Portfolio Prize. His work is particularly popular with restaurant and cafe owners.
