About the Artist
Kai has been photographing Shoreditch and its surroundings since long before it became one of London's most visited neighbourhoods. Their work acts as a counterpoint to the area's reputation for trend and spectacle, instead focusing on the quieter geometries of urban life — the way light falls between buildings, the patterns of pedestrians at crossings, the textures of walls that have seen decades of change. Kai studied at the Royal College of Art and works with both digital and analogue processes. Their monochrome and desaturated colour work has been shown at Whitechapel Gallery, The Truman Brewery, and Photo London. Kai is also a visiting lecturer at Central Saint Martins and runs a popular Substack on photography and urban observation.
