About the Artist
Idris Okonkwo's documentary photography is driven by a belief that every community has stories worth telling with care and artistry. Born and raised in Lewisham, he has spent the last seven years building relationships across South East London's diverse neighbourhoods, creating intimate photographic records of community life, local businesses, faith communities, and public spaces. His approach is slow and respectful, he returns to subjects again and again, building trust that translates into images of genuine intimacy. Idris studied Photojournalism at the London College of Communication and has contributed to The Guardian, The New York Times, and National Geographic. His series 'Lewisham Rising' was exhibited at Goldsmiths Gallery and published by Here Press.
